Palmento Grove Cultural & Culinary Immersion

This one-day immersion trip is designed for social work practitioners to experience a meaningful blend of Belizean culture, history, and community engagement. The trip will include a bus ride via the Coastal Road to Hopkins Village in the Stann Creek District, followed by a boat transfer to Kalipuna Island. Participants will engage in the Palmento Grove Cultural & Culinary Immersion Program, where they will explore the rich heritage and traditions of the Garifuna people.

The trip will include hands-on cultural activities such as learning about Garifuna history and ancestry, exploring traditional herbs and spices used in Belizean cooking and healing practices, participating in the preparation of a Garifuna meal, and experiencing lively drumming and cultural teachings. This immersive experience allows participants to connect with local community members, gain insight into the social and cultural dynamics of Southern Belize, and deepen their understanding of Belize’s diverse cultural landscape.
